Each night we slept in hammock camps. Some were old camps made by the nomadic people in the area and passing hunters from the villages. Others were made by Alberto and Luis by cutting away brush and small trees to clear the ground and keep animals away. The small amount of wood produced from these cuttings was used to hold the mosquito nets off the hammocks. There were no standard poles for this purpose - they were remade each night, thus avoiding having to carry bulky equipment. Even the kettle sticks were prepared anew each evening. In the lower right, a curious pair of river otters came to check us out.
